Computer Mapping

Computer mapping provides a visual medium for our clients to see some of the underlying demographic issues in the school district.  Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, we can "pin map" student address information from a district-provided database to answer the following questions:

bulletHow should attendance areas be aligned based on the number of students in a community to ensure school capacities are being maximized?

bulletWhere do the district's minority students live so that the district can redraw its attendance area boundaries to achieve racial balance?

bulletBased on the enrollment growth, where should a new school be located?

bulletFor declining enrollment, which school(s) should be closed?

bulletWhere are the new housing starts in the district?

bulletHow many public school children are coming out of newly created and occupied developments? (This is known as student yield.)

Example of "Pin-mapping" student database with locations of schools.
